East Punjab (Ind) - Satluj, Beas and Ravi
West Punjab (Pak) - Chenab and Jhelum
Satluj, Beas and Ravi have their source of origin beyond Punjab in Himachal and Tibet.
1. Satluj River : It originates from Mansarover in Tibet, where it is known as Langchan Khambab.
- Bhakra Dam : It build over Satluj River, which is world’s 2nd largest dam in Ropar district.
- Satluj River join Beas at Harike in Tarn Taran District.
- Joint couse of Ravi, Chenab and Jhelum known as Trimab.
- Meeting point of Satluj, Beas and Trimab is called Panjnad.
- Towns on the bank of Satluj River - Ropar, Phillaur, Harike, Ferozepur.
2. Beas River : It originates from Beas Khud in Kullu hills (HP).
· Left
side tributaries – Parbati and Suketri.
· Right
side Tributaries – Uhl, Lambadug, Gaj and Chakki.
· Manikarn
Gurdwara is on the bank of Parbarti (Left side Tributary of Beas).
· Pong
Dam has been constructed on Beas River. (Hydro-electricity).
3. Ravi River : It originates
from Kulu hills (HP).
· Tributaries
- Ujh, Jalalia Nadi and Sakki kiran Nala.
· Head
works of the upper Bari Doab Canal system is at madhopur.
· Ranjit
Sagar Dam (Thein Dam) is at Madhopur to Produce hydro-electricity.
